Beautiful write up with very valid points. This reminds me of that meme that used to go around social media feeds a few years ago:

Society: Be yourself.

Also society: no, not like that.

The gist of this is that people think they want to see the real you, but get offended when you show them your true self because they imagined it differently in their heads. You are absolutely right. Professionalism is much better as it leaves less scope for cultural interpretations of your behaviour, which literally differs from person to person. That's like saying everyone's going to love your food to absolute shreds when we know for a fact that is a feat that cannot be achieved by even the best chefs in the world.
