Faced this in school and pretty much at college as well. There would be this particular person or bunch of people pretending to be your friend and will always hang out with you or accompany you wherever you need them to. But when it comes to providing support during an argument, they suddenly behave diplomatically and pretend like they're a neutral part of the equation, instead of taking your side.
