Hi Richard. I loved loved lovedddd this article. I literally felt like you were speaking about me. It's an article I could've easily written about myself (and have although with different titles and different context (anxiety)).

I'm not gay, but love expressing myself in clothes/accessories that the heteronormatists consider gay.

I too have half a dozen unworn outfits lying in my wardrobe because I'm too afraid to wear them in public. I too have to wear "orthodox masculine clothes mostly blue" to blend in and recede safely into the background, because "its just easier that way". And it's definitely "the price I pay to avoid offending heteronormative sensibilities."

I could also completely relate to your points where you said its "present queerness" that conservatives have a problem with. It's the open display of guys wearing colourful tank tops, nail polish, or sporting long hair with streaks in them. That's what conservatives have a problem with. They are least bothered about what's going on in our bedrooms or who we're fooling around with. You really hit the nail square on the head when you said: "sexuality isn't as confronting and obviously non-conformist as more visible queerness." It's whats right in front of their faces that screws with their heads.
