I think most people just underestimate their own personalities so drastically, that they just agree to get married and go with the flow, blissfully forgetting what powerful personalities they themselves they are and the immense power they can wield over themselves and others.

For such people, this side of theirs eventually comes out one day or another after being supressed and caged for so long. Marriage is definitely not a cup of tea of for empowered people who are already masters of their own lives.
