I Wish Life Came With A Pokedex
It would make life so much easier
Few cultural forces shaped and molded the imaginations of the 90's kids more than the phenomenon of Pokemon. After all, the internet was absent from most of our childhoods in the shape and form that it is widely available in today — wireless, fast, and at our fingertips. Mobile phones, Ipods, Ipads, and even personal computers were absent for the majority of our childhoods. It was things from the analog world that were capable of capturing our imaginations, and one’s that held more sway over us as contraptions from the digital realm were yet to capture and take over the pleasure centers of our brains, what with their instant gratification mechanisms and all that.
The Pokemon sensation was all the rage during the fabled 90's as it had seeped into many aspects of our lives. Yes, there were cricket cards, Digimon cards, WWE cards (called WWF back then), and all other things playful and kid like. But for an Indian millennial who grew up during the early 90's, the Pokemon craze was one of the biggest phenomenon that defined our childhoods, and one that managed to secure a spot as one of the core memories of our lives.
As an Indian who grew up in the middle-east, I can vividly recall the days where Pokemon tazos came with every packet of Lay’s chips and Pokemon cards were purchased by the dozen.
