Okay, so I kind of have two different views about this based on my travel experiences. I've categorized them into group and non-group activities, according to my personal definition of the terms.
1. As a solo traveller, group activities such as going to an amusement park, a museum, visiting a bar, nightclub, or discotheque, and attractions that allow only groups to travel together (like a jeep in a jungle safari or something along those lines) make me feel extremely lonely and insecure.
2. As a solo traveller, non-group activities never unfazed me one bit. These include hiking, swimming in the ocean or in a natural water body, getting a tan on the beach, cycling tours, or even checking out new restaurants.
So I indulge in "group" activities only when I'm with a bunch of friends, and "non-group" activities when I've travelled by myself. That way I never get to feel lonely or bored. Also, when I do indulge "non-group" activities, I cheat a lot (posting everything to WA/Instagram, being on my phone while waiting for my food to arrive to alleviate the boredom), so I guess everything totally jibes with whatever you've said. Great article!
