Running/trekking is a major stress reliever. I've gone through non-trekking phases of my life, and let me tell you those were some of the darkest days I've ever been through. Only when I got back to trekking did I realize what a major stress buster it was, because I was still going through stuff even during those trekking phases but they felt as easy as pie as compared to the non-trekking phases. It literally alters your mental state and perception of those challenges.

Having a trekking or running routine firmly in place just makes everything so much manageable, emotionally, mentally, and physically.
