Veganism is work. A lot of work!

It’s been more than a year since I left veganism and got back to a mainstream diet. And boy what a relief it has been, I tell you, to not do the veganism circus anymore wherever I go!

Here’s the thing with animal rights activism right. Every vegan activist and animal rights advocate is more than eager to provide you with all the resources necessary to try veganism and incorporate it into your lifestyle.

They are more than happy to show you how to veganize certain aspects of your food while still maintaining its cultural and traditional bits, and also how to find vegan food wherever you go. They tell you your food will be vegan once you’ve completed a certain number of steps and once you’ve informed people about your dietary preferences using the script they’ve given you.

What they don’t tell you about is the pressure. They don’t tell you about context. They don’t tell you that you have to do this customary dance of reading ingredients, informing people about your dietary restrictions, and ensuring that your food is vegan wherever you go regardless of the situations and circumstances you’re in. They are banking on the guilt they made you feel after showing you undercover slaughterhouse footage to ensure you’ll remain vegan for the rest of…
