When Carnists Say “The Vegan Diet Is Restrictive” This Is What They Actually Mean
As an ex-vegan I totally get what the popular carnist rebuttal against veganism actually means
Introduction
Veganism is a movement whose time has come. Or so they want you to believe, even with thousands upon thousands of vegan businesses downing their shutters or converting into non-vegan businesses post pandemic.
Yes. I was one of those gullible millions fooled and tricked into believing veganism was doable and that it wouldn’t take heaping teaspoonfuls of energy just to find vegan food wherever I went. When you come across a vegan, you just can’t wrap your mind around how someone can live their lives in such a restrictive and narrow space, like as if life wasn’t tough or bad enough as it is already.
Because, no seriously! When you’re vegan you really don’t seem to find the vegan diet restrictive at all because you’ve pre-destined yourself to only those situations, places, and people that wouldn’t put your veganism to the test in the first place. Tons of vegans live like this and have the audacity to tell carnists that veganism is not restrictive in the boldest cheekiest tone possible. Besides everything else, there’s always that in-group bias thing going on whilst you’re inside vegan groups, or any group for that matter.
