I was the staunchest of vegans you could meet back in the day

I’ve been writing a series of articles for a while detailing the practical realities of veganism and how hard it is to follow for the average person in the throes of work or family life as well as for those who have already made the choice to go vegan. I am now forced to concede and reveal the fact that I wasn’t just talking about the general difficulties people face when they attempt veganism, but those that I have been personally facing all these years.

In this article, I collate all those reasons and summarize why I was forced to finally leave veganism, a movement which I didn’t find my heart and soul to resonate with anymore, with a heavy heart.

For a short succinct version, read “Why I’m Sick and Fed Up of Being Vegan”.

First off, veganism was difficult to even begin with, with my extreme social anxiety kicking in whenever I had to dine outside alone. This meant I usually dined only with vegans or with people who were open to trying out new restaurants or vegan food. And no, I would never do the questionnaire thing because of said social anxiety. I would just go for whatever I knew to be vegan by default and hope and pray that they wouldn’t have added any animal ingredients to it.
